Scott Raun's New House Page

Yes, I'm finally buying a house. An offer has been made and accepted. I've had the Buyer's Inspection. My closing date is currently set to be Friday, 28 March (yes, this is Good Friday), taking possession after 6:00 PM on Saturday, 29 March - Minicon Saturday evening! :-(

Update 1, 25 February: the seller asked if closing could be moved to Tuesday, 25 March, with the 'take possession' date not changing. Upon my realtor's recommendation - and in exchange for a sufficiency of cash - I said yes.

Update 2, 7 March: the seller asked if closing could be moved to Monday, 24 March, with the 'take possession' date changing to 11:59PM on Friday, 28 March. I said yes, for the reasons in update 1.

Update 3, 25 March: Closing went off without a hitch. (We won't discuss the trials and tribulations getting there!) Possession is still scheduled for 11:59PM this Friday, I'm hoping to make it over for an hour or so on Saturday - move a token box in, get the extra keys, take a roll of pictures. Then I'll get the film developed at one of the one-hour places, so I can show them around Minicon. If I'm really lucky, the one-hour place can also produce Photo-CD's, and I'll post a few of them here!

I'll be slowly moving over the month of April. One constraint is that my storage locker needs to be empty no later than the 14th. Other factors: I have furniture to move into the house from five different locations! Caryl Eschweiler's, Don Bailey & Margo Bratton's, Steve Cox's, Bill Bader's, and my mother's. Getting the stuff from Mom will be exciting - she lives in Duluth. I'm hoping to do all the big furniture moving the weekend of April 11-13.

Update 4, 3 April: I finally had my disaster. I walked up to the house Saturday morning, put the key in the lock, and tried to turn it. It wouldn't turn. Called prior owner - no tricks that she knew of. She came and looked - she'd given me an old key. There were two perfectly good keys inside - behind the locked front door. Only other good key was with her daughter in Switzerland - due back the end of summer. She paid for the locksmith to come pick the front door, I paid for him to stay and re-key all the locks (which I was planning on doing sooner or later anyway.)

I now have the contents of bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom moved in sufficient to live in the new house. I was surprised to see just how complete a kitchen I owned. Other than that, things are going well.

The address is:
3928 11th Avenue South
Minneapolis, MN 55407-2641

My phone number will be unchanged - still 612-822-0451.

This is the Bancroft neighborhood, for those who track such things.

It's a two-story house, built in 1910, with 1266 finished square feet, forced-air gas, no air-conditioning. It's got hard-wood floors, no carpeting, and a nice little leaded-glass window at the base of the stairs to the second floor. It also has a built-in buffet at the west end of the dining room.

I'm going to host the Minn-StF meeting on Saturday, 17 May. (This is a change from my prior thought of the third - it turns out that I've committed to be at Demicon the first weekend in May.) This will be my house-warming party. There will be a smaller invitational gathering preceding the Minn-StF meeting. If you're interested in what I think I need for the house, check it out here.
